As one of the most successful students of violin Maestro Zakhar Bron, Alexandre Da Costa is, along with fellow ex-students of Zakhar Bron such as Maxim Vengerov and Vadim Repin, a representative figure of the Great Russian school of violin, in direct line with David and Igor Oistrakh.

The Orchestre symphonique de Longueuil (OSDL)  appoints Alexandre Da Costa Artistic Director and Conductor 

Greenfield Park, January 14, 2019 — The board of directors of the OSDL is delighted to announce the appointment of Alexandre Da Costa as Artistic Director and Conductor.

“Alexandre Da Costa’s vision and energy will give our orchestra new impetus, helping us to position the OSDL as an undisputed cultural treasure of the Montérégie region,” stated Jean-Marc Léveillé, Chair of the Board of the OSDL. “Mr. Da Costa, an internationally acclaimed violin virtuoso, has a rich and varied experience as a soloist and as a guest conductor at numerous concerts and recitals in the Americas, Europe, Oceania and Asia,” Mr. Léveillé added. 

Alexandre Da Costa succeeds Marc David, who has conducted the OSDL for the past 25 years, a significant accomplishment in the music world. Starting in the 2019 2020 concert season, Da Costa will be the OSDL’s third artistic director and conductor since its inception. 

“I am happy to accept the OSDL’s offer to become the new Conductor and Artistic Director of this esteemed orchestra in the Montérégie region. Years of preparation have brought me to a point where I’m ready to share my musical vision in a collaborative, team approach with the musicians of the OSDL. I look forward to conveying my passion for music and providing concertgoers with beautiful, stirring performances,” Mr. Da Costa added.
